February 2023 Newsletter

Black History Month

Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of Black Americans who have helped shape the nation. Celebrate this month with a book starring a Black protagonist and written by a Black author! If nonfiction is more your speed, you can check out books about significant Black Americans past and present. And remember, these selections are only a small sampling of all the books you can find in the library, on the Sora app, and on SoraApp.com!

Saxons Create

This first week of February, students in the library's Saxon Time sessions had the opportunity to flex their creative muscles. In a two part lesson, students created Valentine's Day cards and then learned from our fabulous library assistant, Mrs. Clarkson, how to hand-letter a festive greeting onto them. Students even got to keep the set of lettering markers they used to complete the project! The sessions were so popular that we're considering offering more like them--maybe Mother's Day cards in May? Or a hand-lettering project that could decorate a wall?

Enjoy photos of the event below and check out Mrs. Clarkson's hand-lettering Instagram for ideas and inspiration!

Fall in Love with Love!

It's almost Valentine's Day! If you drop by the library, you can set yourself up on a blind date with a book! You can also browse the library's list of recommended love stories from home. And if romance isn't your thing, you can check out some alternatives here.
