April newsletter

This week, the library has been open for business only while the Fine Arts Department sets up for their incredible and inspirational Celebration of the Arts. But next week we are fully open Monday, 4/18-Wednesday, 4/20, and not only can you come in and admire your fellow Saxons' artistic creations, you can also create some art of your own in the form of poetry!

On display right now are tons of poetry books and novels in verse--that is, whole stories written in poetic form. Once we reopen, we'll have the materials for you to create and illustrate all kinds of poetry. You can even display it for others to enjoy! Drop by and check out the poems and the artwork starting Monday, April 18.

Also in April...

The U.S. and the North High Library also recognize April as Autism Acceptance Month and Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. For a list of recommended books on these important topics, visit the Books page of the North High website.

Coming Soon to the Library!

As you read in a previous newsletter, the North High PTA generously decided this year to include a donation to the library as part of their annual operating budget. So, I placed the library's first order using PTA funds and the goodies have arrived! Here's what you have to look forward to:

Someone please figure out how to make this Perler Bead creation. I need it in my life.

Perler Beads

You put these individual little beads on a pointy stencil and then iron them so they melt together into one cohesive work of art. When I was a kid, we just made flat designs, but with a little imagination and some engineering know-how, amazing 3D sculptures are also a possibility!

DIY Bookmaking

We now have the materials to make our own little notebooks--blank, lined, or gridded pages sewn into a beautiful cover. Imagine everything that could go into them: poetry, sketches, reading logs...

Duct Tape

For HVAC repair, obviously. Seriously, though, you can make the coolest stuff with duct tape and we got all the best colors and patterns! Need a new wallet? Purse? Belt? Prom dress?? Check out some other ideas!

We also have stickers to color, bookmarks to make, and enormous playing cards to use in games. What should go out first, after we finish our puzzle?

Library Closures

Because of special events and AP testing, the library will be closed part or all of several days in the upcoming weeks. Please see those dates below so that you can plan ahead and please pay attention to signage in front of the library, which will clearly announce when it is closed.

4/11-15: Open for library business only. This means checking books in & out and typing & printing documents. No hanging out at tables or on couches--we're setting up for Celebration of the Arts! During this time, CSF tutoring is being hosted in room K1.

4/21: Closed all day for ELPAC testing

4/22: Closed all day while Ms. Masters is not on campus

4/25: Closed at lunch for Mind Madness semi-finals. You can come watch, but there won't be library services available.

4/29-5/16: The library will mostly be closed during this time due to AP testing. If signs say "closed," please do not come in. You can void the test of every person in the room if you enter. That means a lot of angry Saxons!

Important: Even when you can't come in the library, we can usually help you at the textbook window. Don't be afraid to stop and ring the bell!

Return Your Books!

This week, Celebration of the Arts kicks off North's end-of-year festivities. If you still have books from the 20/21 school year or before, you won't be able to purchase tickets to many of these exciting events--or even pick up your yearbook.

Please review your library record and start to take care of this task now, before you miss out on any of the fun!

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Ronda Massey, North High math teacher for over 20 years, who lost her battle with cancer over the weekend. Her students report that she was dedicated to helping every one of them and her loss will be keenly felt by all whose lives she touched.
