Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of Black Americans who have helped shape the nation.
Celebrate this month with a book starring a Black protagonist and written by a Black author!
Student Checkouts @ the Library

January's most popular nonfiction title: The Self-Compassionate Teen, by Karen Bluth
Perhaps because it was the beginning of a new year, books on self-improvement were very popular in January. As of this writing, the print version of The Self-Compassionate Teen is checked out, but the electronic version is able on the Sora app or SoraApp.com. We also have lots of other books that will help you be your best self in 2022!
January's most popular fiction title: An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green
Lots of you know Green's The Fault in Our Stars, or Looking for Alaska, but An Abundance of Katherines generally flies under the radar...until last month, that is! My favorite thing about this book is the friendship between the male protagonist and his (male) best friend. It's better than the romance, for sure.
January's most popular digital title: Siege and Storm, by Leigh Bardugo
A bunch of you must have started the Grisha trilogy during winter break, because Siege and Storm, the second book in the series, was extremely popular in both its audio and electronic formats this January. Ready for book three this month?
Research Assistance
From talking to teachers, it seem like it's the season for research papers! Please remember that research is your librarian's specialty. Ms. Masters is happy to help you with:
identifying a topic
formulating a thesis
navigating the open web and our school's subscription-based databases
citing sources and avoiding plagiarism
formatting your Google or Word document
editing and revising your draft
Don't want to drop by the library? Feel free to email masters.caitlin@tusd.org or check out some of the videos on the library's website. Not surprisingly, there's even a book for that!
After School In the Library
Tutoring is back in the library! Student members of the California Scholarship Federation are waiting to help you master the class concepts that are giving you trouble. Join them in the library every Monday-Thursday from 3-4 P.M.
You can also use this time to study on your own or with a friend; type and print assignments; browse or read books; play games or do crafts; or just hang out until your ride comes to pick you up.
Reminders
COVID Update
Due to the crowds that gather at lunch, the library remains closed during that time. We are open before school, at break, and after school, though, so visit us at one of those times! And look out for Saxon Time to start back up. As soon as we begin attending sessions again, the library will reopen, too.
Follow Us
@NorthHighLibrary only needs 64 more followers until we celebrate with hot chocolate and cider for all! Tell a friend to log on to Instagram and follow now.
Fall in Love With Love
It's almost Valentine's Day! If you drop by the library, you can set yourself up on a blind date with a book. You can also browse the library's list of recommended love stories from home. And if romance isn't your thing, you can check out some alternatives here.
