January 2023 Newsletter

Updated: Mar 7, 2023

Happy New Year!

Drop by the library and put your hopes for 2023 on a card to be included in our new year's display. We also have fun new book-tracker book marks, so that you can keep a record of everything you read in 2023!

March Madness: A Tournament of Books

This March, the past year's most popular titles in the North High Library will go head to head in a championship to determine the Book of the Year. The bracket will be revealed on March 3 and voting for your Elite Eight, Final Four, and Champion books will begin 3/13. There are lots of prizes for participating students and staff, so start reading the Sweet Sixteen and get ready to vote!

What Would Wednesday Read?

Wednesday Addams has darkened our screens once again in Netflix’s fantastic new(ish) show Wednesday! With the titular character played by Jenna Ortega, this new series features the whole Addams bunch and some fun new characters--I’m looking at you, Enid!

Whether you're watching the series for the first time and can't get enough, or you binged it and need something to fill the Wednesday-shaped hole in your life, click here to browse some books that capture the creepy, kooky vibe of the show!

Free AP Study Guides

At lunch on Wednesday, January 18, True North will be giving away AP study guides and other test prep materials in the library. Right now, guides are available for the following tests:

  • AP Calculus AB

  • AP Calculus BC

  • AB & BC

  • WHAP

  • AP Chem

  • AP Psych

  • APUSH

  • AP Lang/Comp

  • CompSci

  • SAT

Others may be added, so drop by and take a look! If there are still books left over at the end of the lunch period, CSF will offer them during after-school tutoring in the library.

Rainy Days in the Library

The library is always a popular place at lunch, but it's in especially high demand on cold and rainy days. As such, we often hit the max number of people we're allowed to have in the library. This number is not based on seats available, but rather on our capacity as determined by the city's Fire Marshall, and the number of students we can safely and comfortably supervise.

When we do hit capacity, we will close the library to further students. You may see students exiting the library while we are closed. This is not an invitation for you to enter, so please remain outside. We will reopen to everyone 5 minutes before the end of the lunch period.

For dry alternatives to the library, you can head to the cafeteria, to a favorite teacher's classroom, and even to the gym!

Library Tip

We have copies of textbooks available to use in the library. You can't check out these particular ones, but you can pull them from the shelves under the board games to take a quick picture of your homework pages, or use them to study during lunch and after school! Of course, if you need your own copy, see library staff at the textbook window.

Reading Grab Bags

It's your new year's resolution to read more, but you just never have time to stop by the library. Or maybe you're overwhelmed by all of your choices when you get here. Fulfill your 2023 goals by ordering a mini library of books chosen just for you by Ms. Masters--they'll be delivered straight to you in class!
