Welcome Winter!
Since long before any winter holiday had a name, people have turned to stories to brighten the darker months. Tales shared when it’s cold outside have always brought comfort, connection, and a little spark of hope.
This winter break, let your North High Library send a few stories home with you. You can stop by and choose a book from the shelves, or you can order a Winter Reading Grab Bag and receive a collection of books handpicked just for you!
Wherever this season finds you, I hope it brings plenty of warmth, rest, and good reading.

Arrianna, grade 9, says that the nonfiction book Why Fish Don‘t Exist, by Lulu Miller, might be what brings her back to reading for good!
David Starr Jordan devoted his life to classifying fish, even as disasters repeatedly destroyed his work. Each time, he rebuilt, determined to bring order to the forces that kept undoing his efforts. When NPR reporter Lulu Miller learned his story, it reshaped her understanding of resilience and the dangers of obsession. Part memoir and part scientific adventure, Why Fish Don’t Exist explores how to persevere in a world where chaos will always prevail.
Library Closures
Tue 12/2, Fri 12/5, Mon 12/8 & Fri 12/19
Open only at lunch and only for printing & book checkout
Wed 12/10 & Thurs 12/18
Completely closed at lunch--no printing or bathrooms
We do sometimes have to close the library unexpectedly and without prior notice. We know this is highly inconvenient and we appreciate your patience when this has to happen. Don't forget:
There will always be a sign outside the library doors to let you know we're closed. Please don't walk by signs (of any kind, anywhere!) without reading them.
The textbook window is often open even when you can't come into the library building. Ring the bell there for service!
To the right of the textbook window is a box in which you can return books 24/7. Please don't use the library building being closed as an excuse to turn in your books late.
The College & Career Center (K1) has computers and a printer for your use.
Best of 2025!
Who doesn't love a good end-of-year roundup? Check out North High’s hits of 2025 below--click on the titles below for more information about these student favorites!
Most popular fiction: The Summer I Turned Pretty, by Jenny Han
Most popular nonfiction: Artist’s Drawing Techniques, by Georgina Palffy
Most popular audiobook: A Castle in the Clouds, by Kerstin Gier
Most popular eBook: Rogue Heart, by Axie Oh. This is the sequel to Rebel Seoul, so read that one, first!
Teacher Tip
You can check out audio and eBooks from Sora, too! Download the app or go to SoraApp.com and log in as “Staff” using the same information you would use to log into a school computer.
Non-teaching staff, you can use Sora, too, but you (strangely) have to call yourself a “Student” when you register. Then use your computer login credentials to start borrowing!

Saxon Time
To attend the library’s session during Saxon Time, students must have a C or better in all their classes.
Double-check your signup: Mr. Mc Carty’s Quiet Place in L1 is not Ms. Masters’ session in the library!
The library is closed during class time. If you’re not registered for the library’s session, please don’t stop by during Saxon Time.
