March 2023 Newsletter

Honor the accomplishments of historical women and revel in the courage and vision of fictional heroines with this sampling of books that both star and are written by women. Drop by the library for many, MANY more titles!

Listen to Your Homework!

You can check out audio (and electronic) versions of most of the books assigned in NHS English classes on the Sora app or SoraApp.com. Not seeing the text you need? Please let Ms. Masters know and she will have it ready for you to check out within 24 hours!

This month, the most popular books in the North High Library will go head to head in a championship to determine the 2023 Book of the Year. Drop by the library by Thursday, March 9, to guess which books will win at each stage of the championship--the student with the most correct guesses will win at the end of the season!

Voting for the Elite 8 begins March 10, and we'll continue elimination rounds every week through the end of the month. For more information about the participating books and to vote for your favorites, visit the library or the library's website!

DIY Bookmaking Comes to Saxon Time

Students with a grade of C or better in each of their classes can sign up to make their own booklet or journal during the library's Saxon Time session on Wednesday, March 29. Fill your book with whatever strikes your fancy, or bring it with you to our poetry workshops in April and fill it with your creative writing!

Reading Grab Bags

Never have time to drop by the library? Overwhelmed by all the book options? Let the library help you out! Order a mini-library of books chosen just for you by Ms. Masters and they'll be delivered straight to you in class!

Time for a tip that will help you evaluate the reliability of media sources in under 30 seconds. If you consume media of any kind--and who doesn't--you'll want to make these checks a habit. They'll help train you to better recognize reliable and factual information!

Library Closures

Because of special events and AP testing, the library will be closed part or all of several days in the upcoming weeks. Please see those dates below so that you can plan ahead and please pay attention to signage in front of the library, which will clearly announce when it is closed.

  • 3/7-9: Closed at lunch while Ms. Masters runs Mind Madness rounds. Come watch one in any open classroom!

  • 3/31: Closed all day while Ms. Masters is off-campus.

  • 4/17-21: Open for printing documents and checking books in & out ONLY. No hanging out at tables or on couches--we're setting up for Celebration of the Arts!

  • 4/24 & 25: Open for you to enjoy the Celebration of the Arts displays, print documents, and check books in & out--no hanging out at tables or couches while displays are still up.

  • 4/26-5/12: The library will mostly be closed during this time due to AP testing. If signs say "closed," please do not come in for ANY reason. You can void the test of every person in the room if you enter.

Return Your Books!

Next month, the much-anticipated Chalk Walk and Celebration of the Arts kicks off our end-of-the-year and graduation festivities. If you have fines or overdue books on your library record, you won't be able to purchase tickets to many of these exciting events--or even pick up your yearbook.

Please review your library record and start to take care of this task now, before you miss out on any of the fun!

Mind Madness Hint---shhhh!

The library has just learned that questions about the winners in our March Madness Tournament of Books will show up in Mind Madness rounds. Drop by the library or follow our Instagram to keep up with the tournament.
