Celebrating Hispanic Heritage

North's Hispanic Culture Club--led by 12th-graders Leila, Frida, Ariana, Isabel , and 11th-grader Julieta, and advised by Ms. Martinez and Mr. Alejandre--have been helping Saxons celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the library at lunch on Fridays!

In the picture below, students make tiny, careful cuts in tissue paper which unfolds into intricate decorations called papel picado. Right, they create paintings inspired by works by famous Hispanic and Latino artists.

Join the club in the library at lunch on Friday, October

15, for their last Hispanic Heritage Month event: A game of bingo-like loteria, with prizes that are sure to please!

Would your club like to host an educational event in the library? Please email Ms. Masters your proposal at masters.caitlin@tusd.org!

Everybody's Reading

The NHS Library's circulation is on fire! Take a look at the number of books the library has checked out during the first month of school over the past few years.

That's a lot of books! We are making this happen by:

  • Getting rid of anything old and outdated. This includes fiction, nonfiction, furniture, rules, and policies.

  • Replacing the outdated stuff with everything that is new and relevant.

  • Purchasing books that are diverse, inclusive, and interesting to students. Speaking of that, if you want to request that we add a book to the collection, just let Ms. Masters know!

  • Encouraging teachers to support independent reading in their classrooms.

Our most popular books so far this year are below. Find them in the library, on the Sora app, or on SoraApp.com today!

Stress-Free Book Club

Come when you can and read what you want! The theme for September's book is "back to school." For more information and book recommendations, visit the library's website.

TikTok Pros Needed!

Think you can make the library go viral? Ms. Masters needs some social media advisors to help her create content for the library's channels! No commitment is necessary--you can create as much or as little as you like. Drop by the library or email Ms. Masters (masters.caitlin@tusd.org) to discuss your ideas!
