November is a time to celebrate the history, cultures, and lasting contributions of Native and Indigenous peoples across the United States. This month invites us to learn from Native voices, honor their stories, and recognize their strength and creativity, which continues to shape our communities today.
The library acknowledges that North High exists on the ancestral land of the Gabrielino-Tongva people, who continue to call the Los Angeles area home. Our presence here compels the North High Library to educate students about Native American peoples and cultures, and to ensure that the library’s collection features materials which accurately represent their varied experiences.
This month, consider reading this brief introduction to the Gabrielino-Tongva people. And for books by and about Indigenous peoples, visit the library or its website!
Follow Us!
For the entire month of November, we’ll celebrate with a little treat or surprise in the library each time we gain 50 new Instagram followers @NorthHighLibrary. Encourage your friends, parents, and teachers to follow for important information and updates from the library!
Library Closures
Tuesday, 11/4: Library is completely closed at lunch
Wednesday, 11/5: The library will be open at lunch for printing and book checkout only
Monday, 11/10 & Tuesday, 11/11: School is closed in honor of Veteran’s Day
Monday, 11/24-Friday, 11/28: School is closed for Thanksgiving
Unfortunately, there are also times when the library has to close at the last minute and without warning. If the library is closed, there is always a sign saying so immediately in front of the door. Please don't walk by these signs without reading them! For book emergencies when the library is closed, please visit the textbook window, and don’t forget that the College & Career Center (K1) has computers and a printer for your use.
Library FAQs: Closure Edition
When is the library open?
The library is open to students before school, at break, during passing periods, at lunch, and after school. In other words, we are open during your personal time and NOT during class time. Please don’t visit the library during class, regardless of what your teacher might say!
But why can't I come during class?
Students need to be in class during class time.
Ms. Masters is busy with other parts of her job, including researching and ordering new books, lesson planning, meeting on Zoom or in person with other TUSD librarians or district personnel, and teaching classes.
How do I know the library is closed?

We will tell you! We will always put up a sign when we’re not open. This sign is usually large and in black and white, as you see in the photo to the right.
Many times, we will add a little note to the sign with extra details, such as exactly how closed we are or when we will reopen. The note in the picture indicates that the library is actually open to students in the Kashiwa program.
Sometimes our sign will look different. During AP exams, for example, it’s much larger because we post a lot of information on it. Regardless of what the sign looks like, please don’t walk around it and enter the library when we are closed.
Why is the library closed?
In addition to our main purpose as a place for Saxons to quietly read, study, and relax, the library also hosts campus business. We may be closed for staff meetings, club events, and special lessons, among other activities. It could also be that your librarian and textbook clerk are sick or not on campus!
How do I do my business when the library is closed?
The textbook window is usually open, even when the main library space is closed. Ring the bell once to talk to library staff! You can return books at the box to the right of the textbook window and the College & Career Center (K1) has computers and a printer.
Where do I find out about upcoming closures?
This newsletter (in the library and here on our website), the library’s Schoology course, and the library’s Instagram. You can also ask!
