You Belong @ the Library!
A lot of research in a variety of fields--medicine, education, psychology, sociology--has gone into proving that students are more successful when they are more engaged in their school community. In other words, when you feel like you belong at school, you are more likely to pass your classes and graduate, and less likely to get in trouble or experience emotional distress. You are partially responsible for creating that sense of belonging at school: Joining clubs and participating in activities helps you feel like you belong, and going out of your way to be helpful and kind to others makes them feel the same. But North High's faculty and staff are responsible for helping you feel like you belong, too!
Since I took over as school librarian in 2019, my goal has been to make the library an indispensable center of the North High community at which all Saxons feel they belong. We offer the only gender-neutral student bathrooms on campus; free menstruation supplies in the event of an emergency; pens, pencils, paper, and other school supplies; couches for napping; tables for studying alone or with friends; book recommendations tailored to every individual and interest; and activities like board and card games, puzzles, and craft projects over which you can meet and get to know your fellow students from all corners of the campus.
Even if you don't consider yourself a reader, I hope that you'll stop some time this year and see how you can belong at the North High Library!

Students in the library enjoy Uno, giant card games, Connect Four, and Monopoly Deal at lunchtime.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by recognizing the contributions of Hispanic and Latino people to the United States, and celebrating those people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
Find books by and about people of Hispanic and Latino heritage in the library or on our website!
Turn in Books!
Beginning next week, all students who have library fees or books from previous years still checked out will have a hold placed on their ASB accounts--this means no purchases from that office. If you would like to avoid that hold, please clear your library record this week. Books can be returned to the textbook window or book drop outside the library, or the checkout counter or book return inside the library. If you believe a book or a charge is on your record in error, please talk to Ms. Masters in person at the library.
